February’s “MORE” magazine spoke to me in a very personal way.  The article “Declaration of Reinvention” so perfectly stated its proclamation on the power of IMAGE & SIGNATURE STYLE.  As an image consultant/strategist I believe that self expression is our voice.  Change internally and externally frees us to be our best selves.  “More” speaks to the woman who has developed the confidence within and embraces the synergistic power of  transformation .

It is stated that “the hair, the shoes, the nail color send the world a consistent message about who we are. But a life of engagement and accomplishment brings inner change that we may not think to OUTWARDLY express”.

Consequently the invention comes inside-out expressed so perfectly by  “SHOWING THE WORLD WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW”.  Brandastyle.

Valentine Style

Ladies and Gents, wow what a day this has been. Lots of exchanges: flowers, candy (Godiva, Jacques Torres always favorites) or from Fort Greene at Gabriela de la Vega a no brainer COMBO gift for the men that strive to please (gorgeous bouquet, artisanal chocolate plus 18 carat earrings of choice). Or did you lean toward an artiface from the Art of Shaving, a Tie, His & Her Massages,  a classic Tiffany locket, or a modern sculptured ring from Meghan Farrell. For those “oh so trendy” maybe Barton Perreira sunglasses from Opening Ceremony at the Ace Hotel in Manhattan.  SO many choices, so little time — what pressure!!!! THe expectations  great, budgets blown, what ever happened to ” it is the thought that counts”. :)

Then their are those expressions that are priceless.  The grandson that sent his grandmother a bouquet of roses hoping it would assuage the loss of her late husband, the friend that awoke at 5:00 to drive her best friend to the hospital for support and reassurance. The doorman that awarded the buildings’ single ladies a single rose.  The IT business that sent his clients an article about “Search Secrets” reading  ” thinking about you ….”  It is all heartwarming and fills me with the essence of Valentines Day. Here is thinking about you .….. Brandastyle

Last Saturday I enjoyed a great event thru AICI at FIT!  It was presented by Sarah Hathorn a former Forune 100 senior executive and acclaimed branding expert of the Predicatable Promotion System.  Sarah provided invaluable components to empower EVERY brand!!!  It was the clarity of the PROCESS that amazed me. She took us through the step by step process to create /improve our own Signature system to elicit  a consistently compelling and powerful message to our clients.  The challenging question “Am I positioning myself to say I am the one for you” was a poignant question, one that needs to be addressed on a regular basis.  It will be my go-to question for 2011 to insure my message is consistent and targeted to best support and engage YOU in the most compelling of ways. Snow, Snow and more Snow!!! Ok, but on a positive note what a great opportunity to take advantage of great seasonal sales.  Recently worked with a customer who was very eager to purchase a leather jacket.  The leather jacket has been a very strong trend & this customer is always interested in investment purchases so I knew it had to be special. After checking out many specialty stores in Dumbo, Fort Greene, Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights we found a “forever” leather jacket by Proenza Schouler — Asymetrical, trapeze shape, layer or stand alone item in a gorgeous quality Italian leather.  The best part was the price,  along with a Helmut Lang Fold blazer (amazing detail for work or play stretch wool double breasted with asymetrical pleats) also at a steal of a price.  How better to endure the snow, sleet, rain then to go shopping or have someone like me shop for you!!!! I want to introduce you to Daniele Doctorow, my neighbor, my client, my friend.    We had  breakfast this summer and as women do we exchanged tidbits about our lives. I learnt that she performed  as Miss Prism in “The Importance of Being Earnest” in Hunter NY on weekends.  She was a concert booking agent for Chamber music recitals and was extremely active in determining grant awards for the Doctoral Foundation for the Arts.  She mentioned her upcoming trip to South Carolina with lifetime  friends and  grew so excited about her October canal trip to France with her wonderful sister Suzi. She shared her on-line dating stories and we laughed.   We said our goodbyes and a few days later she requested  my styling assist for her perspective date.  We laughed,  dressed,  did makeup and wardrobe and she left transformed.

She travelled to SC and France as she intended and last Thursday I got the call that my style makeup assistance was required again, however this time for her plane trip back to Utah with her sister Suzi.  Did I mention that Daniele had breast cancer and was undergoing chemo every week for the last year.

I was so saddened to hear that Daniele died last Sunday. Her life is a testimony to living in the moment and squeezing every breath out of life with love, courage, determination and laughter.  I will never forget Daniele.  Her  beauty & style  touched my life in a profound way.  Thank you Daniele.  Brandastyle.

A glimpse into the  Brooklyn Heights Promenade Halloween Canine Contest.  Could you pick a favorite?

The FIT event featuring Matthew Williamson in conversation with Laura Brown (Harper Bazaar’s feature editor) and Patricia Mears (FIT Museum Director) marked the launch of fashion historian Colin McDowell’s new book about the designer simply titled “Matthew Williamson”.

Clearly obvious was Laura Brown’s genuine affection for Matthew and his great talent.  Conversations touched on his love for the neon pink color and how color has defined his work, his extensive travel to India and its influence on his exotic designs,  his early struggle at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, his friendship with Jade Jagger that actually jump started his career right up to the present with the launch of his contemporary sister line “Muse” which will offer all the creativity at a lower pricetag.

The book published by Rizzoli is amazing! It chronicles Matthew’s body of work  brilliantly with photos and illustrations exploring inspiration and technique.  It is a wonderful giftable for any design student or a seasoned design maven to have and hold in appreciation.  Brandastyle.

NJFW co-founder Donnella (in green)

New Jersey is certainly getting its share of attention lately and Tuesday evening may have been its crown and glory. I attended its very first Fashion Week to see the  Emerging Designers Runway Show presented by co-founders Donnella Tilery and Jack Panico at the Pleasantdale Chateau.  It was a lavish evening of cocktails,  wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, beauty/fashion/image exhibits, and of course the Runway shows!!! New Jersey Housewives Caroline & Dina were very present.

AICI along with other sponsors the likes of  Lord & Taylor, Accessories Magazine, FGI, Bare Escentuals, Goldwell, Joseph Abboud, Vitamin Water ZERO and many more got the opportunity to celebrate and help benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure – North Jersey Affliate.

Our AICI president Jacqueline M. Peros helped vote in the R-T-W- Designer winner Kahri Ann Kerr and the Accessory designer Sara of  10.A.K .

A special thanks to AICI’s VP of Marketing & photographer Cynthia Vincent!!!!
